Microsoft to use FPGA’s to turn Azure into the worlds biggest supercomputer

Azure system to be updated by Microsoft, this will be achieved through an upgrade to its more than 33 data centres. The idea first came about through ”Project Catapult” a bing initiative. The inclusion of PCIe cards through the bing servers showed a 40-fold increase.

Though not the primary target, the scale of cloud computing power means that cloud-scale systems will be the future of super computing.
